Describe your image

Chess Whitts Inc. is proud to be the chess education arm of the Sharon Wiles Foundation, dedicated to mentoring students in at-risk and underserved communities. Recently, we made history by introducing chess to the Maasai village for the very first time, the response was incredible! The students eagerly learned about the board,, files, and the movement of pawns, participating in the engaging pawn game introduced by Darry Madison. To ensure the love of chess continues, we left two boards in the village and appointed two teenagers to teach the entire community. Pastor Charles Conklin from Breaking the Chains Ministries also served with Mr. Whittaker teaching students chess in Africa.

Mr. Whittaker along with Tracy Sandy ran 2 successfull after school centers in Jamaica N.Y. His passion was always to work with children. This passion started in youth ministry. He did not hesitate to teach the students chess there. Teaching students to think critically, make great judgements, and understanging value dicisions along with his christian values was important form him to pass on to the next generation. He taught it in the after school and summercamp. He would say to the students all you need is one win.

Mr. Whittaker started out volunteering chess at P.S. 134 Langston Hughes Elementary School in 2020 in Hollis, Queens, N.Y. He was PTA president there and wanted to see how he could engage students in the game of chess and to be close to his children who attended the school also. His daughter Asianna would volunteer on Fridays also, and he would incentivize her with Jamaican food, which she enjoyed more than the "school lunch." Mrs. G and Mr. Whittaker maintained an excellent relationship throughout the mentorship program.
